Maria Vas 92 of Hamilton passed away peacefully January 11, 2025 in the care of Serenity Hospice Care at RWJ University Hospital. Mrs. Vas was born in Palanka, Yugoslavia and she immigrated to the United States June 21, 1950 on the SS Queen Mary at the age of 19. She became a US Citizen September 8, 1955. She married on November 7, 1953 for 59 1/2 years. Maria was formerly employed at Circle F Industries and also at the family business Mayer's Bakery in Hamilton NJ. She was a wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt and a friend. She enjoyed cooking, baking and putting together family holiday gatherings, For special events and gifts everyone always looked forward to her homemade cookies, which was for her a labor of love. Knitting afghans for family was also something she enjoyed. A longtime member of the Danube Schwaben Club in Yardville. She is the daughter of the late Nikolaus and Anna (Opperman) Mayer. Wife of the late Joseph A. Vas. Mother of the late Victor Vas. Sister of the late Rose Kernast (Peter) and Nicholas J. Mayer (Sally Ann). Late cousin Stefan Mayer. Surviving are her son and daughter in law Joseph and Marlene Vas. Daughter in law Michelle Vas Triglia. Sister Anna Hahn. Cousin Eva Martini. Nieces and nephews Dorothy Scranton, Sally Ann Corbin (Chris), Nick Mayer Jr., Ron Kernast and Peter Kernast. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday January 16, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Anthony Church, 626 South Olden Ave, Trenton. Relatives and friends may call 10:00am until Mass at the Church. Interment will be in Colonial Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Knott's Colonial Funeral Home, Hamilton.
