Second Lieutenant William Scott, Second Lieutenant William Scott, an American hero, served honorably with US Army Air Forces as a navigator on a B-24 Liberator with the 68thBombardment Squadron (Heavy), 44thBombardment Group, 8th Air Force during World War II. Second Lieutenant William Scott was killed in action on 01 August 1943 while participating in Operation TIDAL WAVE, a daring low-level bombing raid against the oil refineries used by the German military around Ploiesti, Romania. His remains were not found following the war but just recently had been identified and honored with a full military service on 09 December 2024. Today, he is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing at Florence American Cemetery, Impruneta, Italy Second Lieutenant William Scott was born in Clifton, NJ, was a graduate of Clifton High School and entered the military at the age of 21 on 13 March 1942. Beloved son of the late William Hugh Scott and Cornella Scott, bother of the late John Martin Scott and Robert Scott, is survived by his nephews William Edward Scott and John Martin Scott Jr along with their respective family members.
