Gottfried "Fred" Saganowski HAMILTON TOWNSHIP

Gottfried "Fred" Saganowski, 80, of Hamilton Township was embraced by Jesus' arms on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. He was born in Wetzawinkel, Austria, in 1944. After WW II, his family emigrated to Venezuela. After spending his childhood in Venezuela, the family settled in Trenton, NJ, in 1960. He attended Trenton Central High School. He began his career as an auto mechanic's apprentice then progressed as an auto mechanic for the Trenton Police Department. After several years with Trenton Police he became the proprietor of his own service station, Fred's Amoco, on Willow Street in Trenton, followed by another location on South Clinton Avenue. Eventually, he joined Holiday Motors, then the State of New Jersey Motor Pool from which he retired.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lucia Rey Saganowski, his son John Saganowski (Amy Caporatta), his grandchildren Victoria Saganowski, Sophia Saganowski, and Madalena Saganowski, and Victoria and Sophia's mother Lynda, his sisters Teresa Durma (Mark), and Gabriella Fry along with several nieces and nephews. He had a fond relationship with his caregiver and neighbor, Syed Waqas Haider (Kaz), who looked after him dearly for several years until his last breath. Fred also dearly loved his English bulldogs, Stella and Lola, whom he would often be seen walking with throughout the neighborhood.

He is pre-deceased by his son, Gottried "Freddy" Saganowski Jr., his brother Stanley Saganowski Jr., and his parents Maria and Stanley Saganowski.

He was an active member of Holy Cross Parish and a member of the Holy Name Society.
