Magdalena Welker, 97 of Hamilton, NJ passed away peacefully on June 15, 2023 with her son by her side. Magdalena was born September 28, 1925 in Calma (in the former country of Yugoslavia). She was raised in a close knit wonderful family. At the end of World War II the family fled to Salzburg Austria. There she worked at various jobs and met her husband-to-be, Johann (Hans) Welker. They were married in Salzburg on May 5, 1951 and immigrated to the United States in 1952. They arrived in NYC by boat and subsequently settled in Trenton, NJ where they continued their life together in a new country. Magdalena initially worked for the Horseman Doll factory and then for over 30 years at the Switlik Parachute company in Trenton from where she retired. In 1954 she and Hans welcomed the birth of their only child, son Richard. This brought her much joy. Magdalena lived a wonderful life and especially enjoyed time spent with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and bingo at the Hamilton Senior Center, She also liked to play the family dice game which was regularly played at family gatherings. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, the Hamilton Senior Center and the German American club where she enjoyed going dancing with her husband. She was foremost a loving wife, mother and aunt. She was known as Madeline or Leni by her friends and was a kind, considerate and well liked woman to those who knew her. She will be terribly missed by her family, especially her son Richard. She was predeceased by her parents, Jakob and Anna Fleith; her husband, Hans Welker; her sister. Anna Wegschaidler: her brother-in-law Hermann Wegschaidler: her brother-in-law Rudi Welker; and her sister-in-law Lilly Welker. She is survived by her son, Richard Welker; her nephew, Ernst Wegschaidler (Kathleen); her niece Dagmar Stepien (Stan); her three nieces in Canada, Renate, Rita and Doris. Magdalena was also a great-aunt to Gina Sperling (Brian); Alexa Korach (Max); and Michael Wegschaidler (Erica). Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral on Friday June 23 at 11:00am at Knott's Colonial Funeral Home, 2946 South Broad street in Hamilton, NJ. Viewing will be 9-11am at the funeral home with Interment to follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Stjude.org
