Obituary of Eileen K. Brown

Please share a memory of Eileen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Eileen K. Brown, 91, of Hamilton, entered into God's eternal rest at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, Hamilton, on December 20, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Trenton and a lifelong resident, Eileen graduated from Cathedral High School, Class of 1949, and the St. Francis School of Nursing, Class of 1952. She was a devout parishioner for many years of Blessed Sacrament Church in Trenton, and most recently of St. Raphael's-Holy Angels Parish in Hamilton. She was a registered nurse at various local hospitals (St. Francis Hospital, Mercer Hospital, Morris Hall and Trenton Psychiatric Hospital) as well as Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City. She enjoyed very much her years living in NYC before coming back to Trenton to help care for her ill father. Eileen spent her last 21 working years employed by the NJ Department of Health, during which time she formed many close friendships with co-workers. She retired after 41 years of dedicated service to the nursing profession. Nursing was truly her calling in life and she spent much time caring for others including her parents, her husband, her children and the patients she served. During her years working for the Health Department, she often spoke of the countless hours she spent visiting with geriatric patients in the nursing homes she surveyed, especially those who rarely saw visitors. After her retirement, she volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels of Mercer County. This afforded her the opportunity to again visit with the elderly and infirmed, while providing them nourishment. Her compassion and empathy for others was evident in everything she did. Eileen often spoke of the wonderful three months she spent on her boat trip to Europe before she was married. She loved the ballet, classical music, and most especially the Opera. She attended many performances at the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center when she was single living in New York, and again on bus trips after she retired. Eileen loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, and often cheered on the Philadelphia Phillies. In her later years, she became quite adept at crossword puzzles and enjoyed watching British crime shows. Predeceased by her parents Helen and William P. Kelly, her husband John J. Brown, her sisters Mary K. Hendry and Mildred P. Cullen, she is survived by her daughter Julia B. Schneider of Bordentown, and her husband Hans, her son Patrick K. Brown of West Simsbury, CT, and his wife, Tricia, her four cherished grandchildren Carolyn Theresa Schneider, Katherine Eileen Schneider, Timothy John Brown, Nicholas Thomas Brown, and many other dear relatives and friends. The funeral will begin at 10:00am on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Knott's Colonial Funeral Home 2946 South Broad Street Hamilton, NJ 08610. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30am at St. Raphael's Church 3500 South Broad Street, Hamilton. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery 1200 Cedar Lane, Hamilton. Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday morning from 8:00am to 10:00am at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Mercer County 320 Hollowbrook Dr., Ewing, NJ 08638 (www.mealsonwheelsmercer.org).
