Obituary of Joseph John Papp, Jr.

Joseph J. Papp, Jr., 93 of Hamilton, New Jersey, entered God's loving care on Saturday, July 16, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Joseph graduated from Trenton Catholic High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was stationed in Korea from 1952 to 1953, where he received several commendations for meritorious service. He then attended Drexel University where he obtained a degree in electrical engineering. Joseph was employed at PSE&G for 40 years as an Electrical Engineer specializing in the installation of high voltage towers. Upon retirement, he and his beloved wife, Marjorie moved to the Pocono Mountains, where they enjoyed 30 years of memories. Joseph lived every day to serve his Lord. He was active in numerous parish ministries at St. Raphael's Church. After his retirement, he continued these ministries at St. Mary's Church in Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania. Family was most important to Joseph. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have special memories of their "Pop Pop", some of which include fishing, boating, tubing, playing cards and rooting for his favorite team, the New York Yankees. Volunteering and service to others was also very important to Joseph. He was instrumental in launching the CYO Youth Program at St. Raphael's Parish and coached girls' softball. He also volunteered at Wayne Memorial Hospital for 23 years, as well as the Area Aging Office in Wayne, Pennsylvania Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Mary (Novak) Papp and his loving wife of 65 years, Marjorie Hudik Papp. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Ernest and Mary Papp. He is survived by his children, Joseph, III, and wife Leslie; Michael and wife DeAnn; Margaret Grochala and husband Jeffrey; Theresa Bartlett and husband George; Joan Papp; and Joyce Christensen and husband Darrin. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, Jason Bartlett and wife Karen; Christin Grochala, and fiancé Michael; Lisa Malley, and husband Jason, John Grochala and wife Lynn; Rachel Desser, and husband Keith; Michael Papp and wife Jeanine; Joseph Papp, IV and wife Dana; John Papp and wife Teresa; Brian Watkinson, Lauren Christensen, Marcus Christensen and Jordan Papp, and his 7 great-grandchildren, Enzo Papp, Aubrey Bartlett, Lucy Wheeler, Lacey Bartlett, Lucas Bartlett, Nico Papp and Blake Wheeler. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Raphael's Roman Catholic Church, 3500 South Broad Street, Hamilton. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, 400 Woolsey Street in Hamilton. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, July 20 at 9:30 a.m. at Knott's Colonial Funeral Home, 2946 S. Broad Street, Hamilton, NJ.
