Obituary of Chester Selmon

Chester Fred Selmon (Chet/Chessie) 03/30/1944 - 12/20/2019 Chet Selmon passed away peacefully on December 20, 2019 after battling with COPD for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Mildred Selmon, and brothers Herman and Charles Selmon. He is survived by wife Rita Selmon, daughter Michelle Selmon-Meland and son in-law Richard Meland, grandchildren Zoe, Adam and Ava, as well as brothers Richie and Peter Selmon, sister-in-law Madeline Selmon, and many nieces and nephews. Chet graduated in 1962 from Hamilton High West School, and served in the US Navy from 1962 to 1966 on the USS Mississinewa tanker. He moved to California in 1974 and resided there until shortly before his death with his beloved wife Rita, near his only child and three beautiful grandchildren who all loved him dearly. Chet was a lifelong businessman. He was the founder of Selmon's Atlantic Gas Station in New Jersey, and later owned Madera Cars Unlimited Auto Sales and Car Wash in California for many years. He was active and well known in the Madera Ranchos community where he and Rita lived for nearly 40 years. During that time, he mentored many young men and women who worked for him. They would often return years later to thank him for his guidance and support and to tell him how much he affected their lives in positive ways. He will be deeply missed by many. A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2020 on a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, family asks that donations be made to a veteran's hospital or organization.
