Obituary of Esperanza J. Baisas

Esperanza de Joya Baisas joined her beloved husband, Dr. Roger Baisas, and daughter, Rebecca Baisas-Diaz on November 25th, 2019, at the age of 91 years. She was born on December 22, 1927, in Pinamalayan, Mindoro, Philippines to Prisco and Natividad de Joya. Graduated from University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines, as a Pharmacist. Her decades in the medical field led her to working alongside Dr. Michael DeBakey's cardiology research group in Baylor Hospital, Barbee Durham in the Reagent Lab at Ohio State University, engaged in clinical research under Dr. C. Walton Lillehei in the Department of Surgery at The New York Hospital - Cornell Medical Center, and was the Assistant Chief of Pharmacy at the VA Hospital in Castle Point, NY for over 20 years before retiring in 1998. She was the founder and former President of the Philippine American Pharmaceutical Society of New York, Inc. and served as a Board of Director at Abada College in Pinamalayan, Mindoro, Philippines. Her generosity extended not only to family and friends but to aquaintances, giving them a leg up in their education and career. Esperanza's spiritual devotion, positivity, ambition, and charm leaves a marked example of what one can do in their lifetime. Her absence has left a void to her many friends and extended family. Surviving her passing are: children, Rachael Baisas-Janolo, Roxanne Baisas, Ian Baisas, and Mia Baisas. Son-in-laws, Dr. Antonio Diaz and Jorge Pancheco Janolo.
