Obituary of William J. Schendlinger

William (Bill) Schendlinger Sr., 72, passed away peacefully on Oct. 30th, 2018 at Capital Health Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Trenton, Bill was a graduate of Trenton High School and Mercer County Community College. An Army veteran, Bill served in the Vietnam War. Before retiring, he worked for Avery Dennison as a service technician. He was a long time resident of Ewing Township. While his sons were growing up, Bill was a coach for West End Soccer and ran the Ewing Youth Wrestling Program. He loved watching his sons and grandsons participate in all their sports. He enjoyed traveling and being "Pa" to his grandsons. He was a long time member of St Bartholomew Lutheran Church in Trenton, NJ. He sang in the choir, played hand bells, served on the church council, served as a deacon, and created the Easter Lilly cross for many years, following in his father's footsteps. Predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret (Smith) Schendlinger, he is survived by his wife of 51 years Barbara (DeLawter) Schendlinger, and three sons William Jr. and wife Lisa, Craig and wife Barbara McCarthy, and Bryan; grandsons Dylan and Aidan Schendlinger; brother Jack and wife Mary Ann Schendlinger; sister Judi Parrish; sister-in-law Pat Streckfuss; and brother-in-law George and wife Sharla DeLawter in addition to many nieces and nephews and loving friends. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, 2220 Pennington Rd, Ewing NJ. The family will greet friends at 1:30 pm. The service will begin at 2:30 pm, with a reception to follow. Interment will be at a later date in Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Camp Cross Roads Camp and Retreat Center, 29 Pleasant Groove Rd, Port Murray, NJ 07865, where Bill and Barbara met as teenagers.
