Peter Biskup Obituary

Piotr "Peter" Biskup, 77, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on April 19, 2026.

He was born on June 16, 1948, in Chrostnik, Poland, to Jan and Katarzyna (née Waczur) Biskup. Peter was the older fraternal twin—a role he carried with pride and a playful spirit, never letting his younger brother, Nicholas "Kolka" Tutko, forget it.

In 1967, Peter emigrated to Trenton, New Jersey, beginning a new and uncertain chapter with courage and determination. During a visit back to Poland in 1970, he met Krystyna Owsianicka at a party, and for Peter, it was love at first sight. Just eight months later, he returned to Poland, and they were married on January 9, 1971, during a heavy snowstorm—a fitting beginning to a life together defined by resilience and devotion. Their wedding celebration, filled with laughter, music, drinking, eating, and dancing, stretched across two homes and lasted two unforgettable days.

Peter was a man of strong hands and an even stronger heart. He was known for his tireless work ethic and his remarkable ability to build, repair, and create. Through his work in construction, and in running his own roofing and siding business, he provided not only for his family but for countless others who relied on his skill and integrity.

He was always the person you could count on—ready to help, to fix, to show up—but he was just as known for his sense of humor and joyful spirit. Peter loved to laugh, to tell jokes and stories, and to bring people together. He was often the life of the party, filling rooms with energy, warmth, debate, and laughter that made everyone feel at home.

For more than 40 years, Peter was a devoted member of St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church community. He gave his time freely, caring for the church grounds, helping to replace the roof, and installing flagpoles—quiet acts of service that reflected his deep faith and generosity. Each Christmas season, he lovingly continued the tradition of making wreaths by hand, placing them on the graves of friends and family as a sign of remembrance and enduring love.

Peter found joy in life's simple and meaningful pleasures. He once dreamed of owning a Cadillac, affording as many doughnuts as he could eat, raising two children—a boy and a girl—and one day retiring in Florida. With gratitude and pride, he saw each of these dreams come true. Books, art, and music were other quiet joys in his life, and his favorite song, "Yesterday" by the Beatles, was one he returned to often.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jan and Katarzyna Biskup; his beloved wife of 43 years, Krystyna Biskup; and his siblings Jan, Michal, Slawek, Emil, Wasyl, and Maria.

He leaves behind a family who will carry his memory forward with deep love and gratitude: his son, Peter Biskup, and his partner, Karolyn Frye, who were his primary caregivers in his final years and whose care and devotion meant so much to the whole family; his daughter, Monica, and her husband, Roman; and his cherished grandchildren, Ava, Peter III, Kaylynn, and Dario, who brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by his twin brother, Nicholas Tutko, and his wife, Ana, along with many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Peter will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, his humor, and joy. His presence will be deeply missed. And while the days ahead may at times feel like "yesterday" belongs too far away, the love, laughter, and memories he gave so freely will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
