I extend condolences to the Sodol family for their loss. Major Petro Sodol was an exemplary United States Army Officer, who had proven his valor and been awarded four Bronze Stars, with V for valor, for his service during two deployments to Vietnam. He was also a born leader, as shown by his extensive activity in Plast the Ukrainian Scouting Organization. Not only did he participate in camps and scouting activities, such as jamborees, but he was the founder of Lysova Shkola, which is still the primary trainer for Plast Boy Scout Counselors, and his crowning achievement, among many, was helping to organize the rebirth of Plast in Ukraine after the Independence of Ukraine, 24 August 1991. Although Plast was founded in Lviv, Ukraine in 1911 by Oleksander Tysovsky (Drot) based upon the 1908 publication, Scouting for Boys by retired British Lieutenant General Robert Baden-Powell , it was banned by the Soviets in 1922, but existed covertly, and underwent a rebirth after World War II, which Major Sodol was a participant, abroad, first in Displaced Persons Camps, and then in countries where Ukrainians settled. Plast members (Plastuny) have, just as Major Sodol, participated in every war against Communism in the past hundred and nine years. Major Sodol's memory will remain eternal, as well as his legacy. Hrycak, U.S. Army, Retired, National Commander of Ukrainian American Veterans (photograph of Major Sodol being recognized as Hero of The Game by the New Jersey Devils Hockey Team, Newark, NJ, on 8 December 2024, he was a UAV member)
