Robert E. Clark Obituary

ROBERT EDWARD CLARK

Robert Edward Clark, a lifelong resident of New Jersey and a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday August, 6 2025, in Hamilton, New Jersey. He was 79 years old.

Born on November 13, 1945, in Trenton, New Jersey, Robert was the son of Sheridan B. and Helen Howell Clark. He graduated from Trenton Central High School in the Class of 1964, where he and his twin brother Ronald made their mark as standout athletes. Their exceptional talent on the soccer field earned them both many accolades and awards — an honor that reflected not only their skill but also their dedication to the sport.

After high school, Robert—affectionately known as "Clarkee" to many—continued his involvement in soccer by becoming a referee with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA), a role he proudly held for over 45 years. His commitment to the game and its community left a lasting impression on generations of players and fans alike.

Professionally, Robert began his career at Gould Battery in Trenton before joining Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), where he worked with diligence and pride for decades. His tenure at PPPL spanned an impressive 45 years until his retirement in August 2021. During those years, he formed lasting friendships with colleagues and became a respected figure within the organization. On his free weekends he would deliver wedding cakes for Barbero Bakery in Chambersburg.

Robert's greatest joy came from his family. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Jeanne Brigman Clark, who passed away in 2011. Together they built a life centered around love and devotion to their children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters Dawn M. Naples and her husband James of Hamilton; and KellyAnn Fry, also of Hamilton. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Samantha M. Naples, Michael J. Naples, Nicholas J. Fry, and Matthew R. Fry.

He is also survived by his twin brother Ronald E. Clark of Conway, South Carolina; sister-in-law Jodi Brigman of Robbinsville; and many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Sheridan "Brud" Clark (Margaret), Gerald Howell (Jean), and Kenneth Howell (Dorothy); sisters Edith Budoff, Mary Hones, Dolores Ervin (Fred), Marion Pagnotta (Daniel), and Marie Clark; sister-in-law Judith Clark; brother-in-law Leonard Brigman; as well as sister-in-law Lillian Brigman McMillan and brother-in-law John L. McMillan.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Lillie Wicker Williams for her compassionate care during Robert's final days. Her kindness brought comfort not only to him but also to those who loved him most.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11:00am Saturday at Knott's Colonial Funeral Home, 2946 South Broad St. Hamilton.

Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday 9:30 – 11:00am at the funeral home
